Strengths

1.Has 125+ Hydro electric plants along with few thermal, nuclear and Wind energy plants with a total capacity of 40,000MW and over 25,000 employees
2. Transmits more than half of Brazil electric supply having over 61000 kms of transmission lines

3. Most of the energy is generated is Hydro electric – therefore has not emission issues and also no pollution issues
4. Through its PROCEL programme, the company is very active on the Environmental responsibility front.

Weaknesses

1.Focussed only on Brazil when it has a huge potential for expansion into other countries.
2. Does not exactly have a diversified portfolio as most of it is only Hydro – power.

Opportunities

1.Exploring into other parts of Latin America -  Venezuela, Argentina and also into Africa

2. Opportunity in other types of power generation

1.Entry of foreign players
2.Hydro power is partly dependent on rainfall, water level in rivers which are out of human control
