Strengths

1. High profitability and revenue due to which Verizon Wireless acquired its major operations in a deal valued at $28.1 billion
2. Due to acquisition by Verizon, it reduced its labor costs extensively
3. LTE 4G network capabilities across its network

4. Now part of US’s largest wireless carrier, Verizon Wireless

5. Experience in serving customers in the rural areas where it had considerable share previously

Weaknesses

1. Due to acquisition, FCC asked Verizon to divest 105 markets where Alltel operated
2. Confusion amongst the consumer as some markets were taken over by Verizon, and some by AT&T
3. The areas left under Alltel name are too small to be significant and are not commercially viable

Opportunities

1. Higher revenue growth in rural areas rather than urban areas
