So much is always said that the maximum a person can learn is always at home. The attitude of a person is a reflection of their upbringing; their spirit is a reflection of their values and their etiquette is a reflection of the kind of social environment they stay in. Hence, a classroom can only teach a few things which can help improve skills but the maximum that a person can learn is through the realities of life. Another very under rated scenario of the "best managers" is experienced by all of us. And one of the best managers are housewives or mothers!!
Housewives and mothers are the best example of managers who are not paid despite being the most skilful set of individuals. They have excellent qualities which even some of the so-called top B-school Graduates and leading businessmen do not possess. Here are a few inherent qualities which most homemakers have.
1. Manage time-
Mothers or housewives are the most amazing and efficient at managing time. They manage to utilise time extremely well despite the various things they have to do. They wake up early, prepare breakfast, ensure that their family is ready for school and office, they instruct maids and other people to get things like cleaning utensils, washing clothes, maintain garden etc on time, go grocery shopping, spend time with family in the evening and even cook dinner before retiring for the day. In a single days work, the efficient home-maker-manager cultivates the maximum.
2. Training human resources -
Home makers are extremely good human resource managers as they try to teach, train their resources for maximum output. A home maker has to teach the maid about timings, cleanliness, dos and don’ts etc about the family etc. A home maker also has to ensure maximum efficiency of people like the milkman, gardener, cleaner etc so that all work can be completed without too much of a fuss.
3. Handle Financial Accounts-
Home makers are one of the best in managing finances. They get a part of the household income to operate the various expenses at home. These include purchasing basic groceries, paying salaries for staff, buying gifts for guests, repairing of any household item and still managing to save a significant amount for the future. Hence every little expense is thoroughly maintained.
4. Plan for the future-
Every manager is taught to plan their career and look at the way forward. Similarly, housewives also study analyse and plan short term as well as long term goals which are beneficial for a family and they act accordingly
5. Waste management and High Operational Efficiency-
One of the most critical management tools is to manage resources so as to minimise wastage and maximise efficiency. In this too, homemakers ensure that all resources are used efficiently and that there is very little wastage.
6. Crisis Management-
One of the toughest business calls are to manage crisis in any business environment. Homemakers also face various crises which need to be dealt with precision, speed and instant decisions. A few examples can be sudden medical emergency in a family or an unexpected damage to the house or car etc. All these scenarios demand for a quick action which can help find a quick solution to the crisis.
Often is the case that people, especially men, going to offices are considered to be good managers for the senior profiles held by them, the important decisions taken by them and the hefty pay package they command. But time and time the world has to be showcased that the leading ladies of the house who are the home-makers, housewives or mothers, are the "best managers"!
