Originating from the Latin word ‘cambiere’ meaning ‘to exchange’, cambist refers to any individual dealing in foreign exchange – any dealer in bills of exchange or an expert in foreign exchange. Alternatively, Cambist may also refer to a manual (book) explaining moneys, weights, and measures of different countries with their comparables.
Currently due to progress in technology and rapid trading timelines, manuals and books have been replaced with e-versions of the ongoing exchange rates.
Cambist is now used to describe any professional currency trader.
