Definition: Libyan Investment Authority

Libyan Investment authority is a government organization of Libya which manages the sovereign wealth funds. It was established in 2006 and is governed by board of trustees consisting of mix of government officials and country’s banking experts. This authority is answerable to the Libyan prime minister.

This committee manages and oversees the investments in various sectors namely:

• Agriculture

• Real estate

• Infrastructure

• Oil and Gas

• Shares and bonds

Its primary focus is on the surplus oil revenue country generates through Libyan oil reserves.

LIA is one of the world’s smallest wealth funds and managed approximately $70 billion of assets in 2009.
