Definition: Equal Employment Opportunity

The Equal employment opportunity laws protect the employees against discrimination at the workplace. These laws safeguard the employees against discrimination based on their color, gender, race, religion or origin. The objective is to allow the employees from different race, sex and colour to work together peacefully.

Civil Rights Act of 1964 was the first act for the implementation of EEO.  Other important acts protecting employees are :

  • Executive Order 11246
  • Age Discrimination Act
  • Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990
  • Genetic Information Non-discrimination Act.
  • US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
