Definition: Lockout

A lockout is also known as a shutout. It is an act of withholding of work from employees and also restricting their entry to the workplace by an employer.

It is usually seen during a labor dispute where the employer wants to settle the dispute on his own terms and wants the terms favorable to the employer.
