Definition: Job Accommodation Networks(JAN)

Job Accommodation Networks is one of the four researches and technical assistance resources sponsored by the US Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) to facilitate the employment and retention of workers with disabilities.

Its mission is to assist people with disabilities in finding a job or building a business, tailored as per their needs, by providing them and related parties with free and expert guidance. It keeps disabled people, their family, employers, and other related parties informed about the job accommodations, small business ownerships and self employment ventures and schemes.

Each person with disability looking for any kind of assistance is given a JAN’s consultant. Each of these consultants has at least a master’s degree. They provide information related to:

  • Rights  and responsibilities
  • Business planning
  • Financial strategies
  • Market research
  • Specific schemes and opportunities
  • Self employment options
  • Income support
  • Entrepreneurship

The communication between the consultant and customer is confidential and is free of charge, and is customized as per the limitations, ambitions and possibilities of each of the customer. JAN also posts relevant information through web media, conferences and training events.
