Definition: Mobile Commerce

Mobile commerce or m-commerce means using mobile for commercial purposes, i.e. buying, selling and investing over mobile platform. One of the key feature of m-commerce is providing a convenient and simple interface for smaller screen sizes maintaining the same backend infrastructure. This is generally done by mobile friendly responsive websites.

These days the popularity of such mobile sites is going down because of the emergence of applications. Generally every e-commerce website has got its own application available over various platforms i.e. android, IOS etc.


A million examples of business over mobile platform can be seen in our day to day life. Mobile commerce enables people to do business over internet which includes banking, purchases and investment using mobile. In banking sector, mobile commerce enables people to do transaction over mobile. Similarly in investment sector, m-commerce enables people to check stock prices and conduct transactional activities.
