Definition: Graphical User Interface GUI
An interface which allows the users of a computers or other electronic devices to interact with devices in a more human manner. A GUI is programmed in such a way that it uses windows, icons and menus to make the information and actions available to the user.
It acts as a visual notation in contrast to the text based commands which were used earlier to perform any operation. A combination of computer graphics abilities, technology and device, GUI provides user an excellent platform which facilitates the device usage and operations more intuitive. Because of easiness of use, GUIs operating systems have almost replaced the command line operating systems (MS-DOS, UNIX) used earlier specifically by the end users.
Examples: Automated Teller Machine (ATM), Point-of-sale touch screen at various shopping centers, Microsoft Windows OS, MAC OS
