Definition: Copywriter

Copywriters are professional who writes headings, content of advertisements, catalogues, brochures, direct mail offers, product literature, etc. Copywriters also develop written content for websites, sales letters, proposal, articles, books etc. Copywriting is a creative process of conceptualizing advertisements and marketing strategies such as events to promote brands or services.


Some copywriters work independently and are called freelance copywriters, while others are the employees of the advertising agencies.


In the advertising world, copy refers to the text, or words, used in an advertisement. The body copy is nothing but the supporting text, facts, and benefits to promote the brand.


For example, in a television ad, the copywriter’s main role is to write the dialogue, announcer's script, etc.
