Definition: Agate Line

Agate line is a standard of measuring advertisement space mostly used for print medium like newspapers.

One agate line is one column in width and one agate in depth. One agate refers to one fourteenth of an inch (fourteen such lines will make one inch of the column). In points it is five and half points (5 ½ pt). However there is no fixed width for the column so the width of agate line varies accordingly.
