Definition: Sales Representative
Sales representative refers to a person who is employed by a company to sell its merchandise. Mostly sales representatives engage in door-to-door selling through direct personal contact with the end consumer.
While the cost of contact in this form is selling is the highest among all others (say advertising or direct marketing), the conversion rate (i.e. people who actually buy the product) is the highest. However, the reach of the sales representative is the lowest and hence this form of selling is not considered economical.
Eureka Forbes and Avon are two well-known companies which generate sales exclusively through sales representatives.
