Definition: Airtime

It is the amount of time taken by an event to be broadcasted in television or radio. It can also be defined as the amount of time spent by subscribers on their mobile phones.

Most of the cell phone plans are based on the number of airtime minutes per month.

Usually airtime is purchased in the form of a calling card where the user inputs the code from the calling card. This is also called a prepaid service. In the print media, it is called “run of press”.

Airtime is studied by companies so that they can plan their ad campaigns accordingly. The best slots for advertising are known as prime-time slots, where more number of viewers would be able to see the ad. This would in turn lead to more people knowing more aware about the advertised products and services.
