Definition: Original Order
Original order is the first order from a particular customer. This information is useful in understanding the customer acquisition. Marketers generally use and track original orders to gain the basic understanding of how new customers are acquired by the company.
Original order gives you the information of whether the customers showed interest in your product because of the presence of sales promotions (e.g. free shipping, coupon, $ off) or other reasons. It also helps the marketer to understand the channel (Retail, Online, Direct Mail, Phone, etc.) used by the customer when they made their first order.
Marketers can use this information to understand what works and what doesn’t by examining the shopping patter of repeat purchasers and one-timers.
