Definition: Closed Promotion

A closed promotion is a type of sales promotion strategy in which the offer is applicable only for a certain specific group of consumers.


For e.g. Maruti Suzuki’s “Dil se” program is a promotional offer program meant for NRIs (non-residential Indians). Under this scheme, Indians who reside overseas can gift a car from the Maruti range, to their friends and family in India.

NRIs can buy the cars online on www.marutinri.com at special discounted rates vis-à-vis Indian buyers and avail exclusive value added services such as multiple payment options, financing options, free gift wrapping and delivery on auspicious occasions.

 

A more generic example is that of a hotel offering a special discount for senior citizens of the age group 65 and above. Here it is an offer or promotion for a close group or a smaller group.
