Definition: Advertising Agency

An advertising agency is an entity that provides a client with detailed strategic action plans to help him enter and succeed in a particular market. They basically perform the following 5 functions-

  1. Creating ideas
  2. Designing the campaign
  3. Booking the space and time on carious media
  4. Planning
  5. Conducting survey, analysis post campaign run.


These firms can be of two types-

i)     Independent advertising firms which handles several clients at a time (who can even be competitors in certain markets).

ii)    In House Agencies which are owned by the company and performs dedicated services for it.
