Definition: Consumer Product

It is a product that is bought directly by the consumers. Marketing of such products is called B2C marketing. The opposite of this is an industrial product, which is in turn used to make a consumer product.

These can be classified into the following categories:                 

-          Convenience goods

-          Shopping goods

-          Specialty goods

-          Unsought goods

Example:  A chemical factory produces chemicals which are brought by soap manufacturer to produce luxury soap. Hence, chemical is the industrial product and soap is the consumer product in this case.
