Delivery period is the time taken between placing an order and receiving it. Delivery period can extend from few minutes to hours to even few days depending on the business. Faster delivery periods are appreciated by customers as it is an important aspect of good customer service.
Delivery period should not be related only to ecommerce rather delivery can be related to delivery of pizza or grocery or cake or any other ordered product. Delivery being a service, e-retailers wants to reduce the gaps and improve the service quality. Therefore, e-retailers have gradually outsourced the logistics division to some third party player so that delivery can be handled efficiently. Also, e-retailers have started building large warehouses throughout India and not concentrating only on one hub. This is helping them reduce delivery costs as well as reducing the delivery period. Another approach that most e-retailers follow these days is “ Under promise and Over deliver” i.e. they promise that a product shall be delivered in some time period and actually deliver it faster than promised. Thus, improving customers shopping experience.
