Definition: Private Brands

Private brands are products that are controlled and marketed by retailers. Most of the times they carry the name of the retailer on the products

This brand is generally created by a huge manufacturer who supplies to a retailer who puts his name on it before selling the final product.

It is also called private label.

Advantages of private brand are: -

  • Gives freedom and flexibility in pricing
  • Product attributes and quality can be easily controlled
  • Generally have higher margins
  • Manufacturer's promotional costs are minimal
