Definition: Attributes Sampling

Attribute sampling is a statistical technique used on a population which consists of a two mutually exclusive segments of population which either possesses a certain attribute or do not possess.

Then a sample is drawn from the population and the method used to obtain some meaningful estimate of the occurrence of the attribute in the population is termed as attribute sampling.

The most common application of attribute sampling is in internal auditing where it is used to estimate the rate of compliance as the population consists of two mutually exclusive groups of either compliant or non-compliant.
