Definition: FMS (Flexible Manufacturing System)
It is a manufacturing system which is flexible in nature to handle the require changes which occur in the system due to various reasons. The change may be predictable and known or it can be unpredictable and happening randomly. This type of manufacturing system is designed in such a way to adapt and respond to the changes without hampering the output of the system.
It is of types like machine flexibility where the system is capable of handling the change in the product type and their order of the execution of the task.
In routing facility the system is able to handle the change in the route or the numbers of machine required to execute the task.
