Definition: Quality Assurance

It is a planned set of activities that are executed in order to prevent defects and problems with the products of services that are delivered to the customer, such that it meets all the quality requirements. The two main principles associated with QA are “Purposeful Fit”, the end product serves the intended purpose and “Getting it right the first time”, to avoid mistakes as much as possible.


This systematic set of activities which includes measurement, process benchmarking, monitoring and feedback loop can be implemented in every step of the manufacturing process, starting from the procurement of raw materials, monitoring of assembly lines and final delivery to the customer all focused on maximum error prevention.


The processes that are performed as a part of QA fall under the concept of Total Quality Management.
