Brief Project Description & Responsibilities:

My responsibility as a corporate summer intern was to perform market research and develop strategies to increase the smartphone subscriber base of my company in Maharashtra circle as well as study a dual sim customer’s behaviour towards mobile data usage


What was the overview of the project? Elaborate with some details

The aim of both the projects was to understand ways of increasing the revenue from data services. Since having a smartphone is a prerequisite for using mobile data, a primary way of achieving this was by getting new customers to buy smartphones and subscribe to their telecom service. Another way was by getting existing smartphone users who were using a different network to switch. Yet another way was to get the existing customers to either take up a smartphone or increase their existing data usage. The project involved studying the Maharashtra market of smartphone subscribers, conducting surveys to understand the key drivers of purchase of a smartphone and motivators to take up a telecom service. The second project involved surveying dual sim customers and understanding their behaviour towards mobile data usage. Both the projects finally culminated into providing with new strategies for the company to increase its mobile data revenue


Share your daily routine & overall summer internship experience.

I would sound clichéd but can’t help but say that these two months entailed one of the best learning and adventurous experiences of my life. Learning because each day opened a new set of possibilities, a new market and some new theories. My daily routine in the first 2 weeks stretched from morning 9 am to evening 6 am.The first two weeks of the project were spent on pondering and formulating the approach, methodology and questionnaire for the survey. The following weeks were spent on field surveying various cities in Maharashtra and Goa.The questionnaires and the approach used to get modified frequently depending on the market conditions.It was adventurous because of the field work and travel involved. From the villages of Maharashtra to the bus stations in Goa, I covered as much as I could. During the process I was able to learn a little Marathi, get to know the general state of affairs in some of the remotest parts of Maharashtra and learn some new method of market research and branding. Since marketing has a vast scope and has always been my favourite subject, this internship helped me discover what I really wanted to do in the field of marketing


How was the selection process conducted?

The selection was through Campus Recruitment drive which involved clearing an online aptitude test, a GD and finally a personal interview


What were your key learnings from the summer internship?

The key learnings that shaped my mind over those two months were the realisation of the power of a clear thinking approach towards any problem, the thrill of travelling alone without inhibitions and the importance of studying consumer behaviour and how it dictates brands to do what they do. The ultimate aim of any company is to be scalable in any given competitive environment. Hence the key to a good business is the process of continuous evolution. I could relate it to my tenure as an intern since I had to continuously evolve my approaches and adapt to new situations every day.


Three tips would you give to your juniors

• Be social, talk to people from other teams, and highlight your project. It always helps in getting a ppo/ppi

• Establish a project charter right at the beginning of the internship so as to stay updated with the expectations and the key deliverables

• Start your PPT at least 2 weeks before your final presentation. Modifications will happen till the day of your presentation.
