Description

Beer Game

Brief description

The purpose of the game is to understand the distribution side dynamics of a multi-echelon supply chain used to distribute a single item, in this case, cases of beer. The aim is to meet customer demand for cases of beer through the distribution side of a multi-stage supply chain with minimal expenditure on back orders and inventory.

Rules and Regulations

Elimination Round:

a) There will be four members in every team.

b) Online Quiz based on mix of Operations and General Business Concepts

c) Teams would be shortlisted after the online quiz who would be invited to come to the campus to participate in the next round.

On-Campus (Final) Round

a) Second round will be held at the GIM campus.

b) The shortlisted teams would be divided in 2 groups and made to play a BEER GAME. The top two teams from each group will play the final level.

c) Team members have to play roles of Retailer, Wholesaler, Distributor and the factory or manufacturing unit, individually.

d) All team members are required to bring a laptop for On-Campus Rounds.

e) The roles will be assigned to the team members randomly.

f) Number of customer orders will be generated at the retailer end he/she has to transmit the order further in the supply chain.

g) Each participant will have to forecast the expected values of orders and work accordingly.

h) There will multiple rounds with a differential score for each round.

i) Costs will be incurred in the form of inventory carrying cost and cost of lost sales.

j) The team which will incur the least cost cumulatively will be winning.

k) Organizing team's decision will be final and binding.
