It may be a case of symbiosis or even may be that walmat might acquire many organized retail players for a greater good. I remember when this bill was in news players like future, birlas had welcomed the bill. If it were a threat they would have oppossed it.
if you see local players are the leaders in organized retail in their respective countries, walmart in US, Tesco in UK, Carrefour in France, Metro in Germany, Lianhua in China and Aeon in Japan. So yes we are in the age of boundary less world, but still locals are the front runners.
if the local players are leaders in their countries it doesnt mean it is true for india also. These local players are leaders because they are able to match walmrt in terms of scale. In India nobody can match walmart in terms of bargaining power
agree with pooja on this....due to this bargaining power Indian policy makers are not allowing retailers in India. They are afraid that this may result into people losing jobs because of their bargaining power...
Indian organized sector is hardly 10% . If it is increased then more advantage from poor /village people can be taken like ITC has done with E-chaupal, Reliance fresh has done. Government has also taken care that the foreign retail companies wouldn t exploit local. People who buy stuff from kirana store , they will still buy it from there since it has its own advantage.
The entry of walmart will be beneficial for consumer since they will get everything under one umbrella and with more options. The move will also provide more job opportunities.
People are against it because of only one reason that is harm to local stores even though it is not fully correct. CEOs and business tycoons are saying this will be an opportunity and will contribute to economy.
