Verizon Communications Inc. is based in New York City and incorporated in Delaware. It was formed in the year 2000 with the merger of Bell Atlantic Corp. and GTE Corp.
In 2002 Verizon launched its 3G network in the US. In 2003, it took the leadership role in promoting Local Number portability. In 2006, Verizon acquired MCI, forming Verizon Business. It acquired Cybertrust in 2007 and became leading provider of managed security services. In 2010, Verizon launched wide-area 4G LTE network in 39 major markets and in 2014 Verizon acquired Vodafone’s 45 percent interest in Verizon Wireless for $130 billion.
