Royal Dutch Shell is currently headed by Mr. Ben Van Beurden and was founded in 1907. It is headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands.
It was formed by the merger of Royal Dutch Petroleum and Shell transport & Trading based in United Kingdom. The company has developed its core competencies in all the major areas of oil & gas industry which are production, transportation, refining and trading of hydrocarbons. It operates in more than 100 countries now. Shell is mainly operating in four major businesses that are ‘upstream international’, ‘upstream Americas’, ‘downstream’ and ‘projects & technology’. Upstream International looks after the exploration of hydrocarbons in other countries than America while upstream America is meant for exploration in North and South America. Shell’s downstream operations provide it a one-third of its profits. It is also known for its network of 40000 petrol stations and 47 oil refineries. Projects & technology allows Shell to plan its projects using the best available technologies. It is also involved in the generation of alternative energy like solar, wind, hydrogen and forestry. The company has a huge employee base of 94,000 all around the world.
