It manufactures and sells pharmaceutical formulations and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) primarily in India and the United States. The company offers formulations in various therapeutic areas, such as gastroenterology , cardiology, psychiatry, neurology, etc.
It also provides APIs such as warfarin, carbamazepine, etodolac, and clorazepate. Under its vast product portfolio it also has anticancers, steroids, peptides, sex hormones, and controlled substances.
Sun Pharmaceuticals was established by Mr. Dilip Shanghvi in the year of 1983 in Vapi. Then it only used to offer five products to treat psychiatry ailments. Later in 1987 it expanded its product line depth by offering Cardiology products followed by gastroenterology products in 1989. Today it is the largest company in India that provides chronic prescription medicines and a market leader in psychiatry, neurology, cardiology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, gastroenterology andnephrology.
In 2014 the historic acquisition of Ranbaxy made the company the largest pharma company in India, the largest Indian pharmaceutical company in the US, and the 5th largest speciality generic company globally.
Some of its best-selling products are Adcapone, Alzolam, Angizem, Aztor etc.
