General Motors company, is an American multinational firm headquartered at Detroit, United Stated of America.
The company designs, manufactures and sells cars and trucks and automobile parts worldwide. It also has a financial services business which automobile financing solutions to the retail customers for new GM vehicles and lending programme for General Motors - franchised dealerships. General Motors produces thirteen brands of vehicles in thirty-seven countries, the brands include Alpheon, Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, Holden, HSV, Opel, Vauxhall, Wuling, Baojun, Jie Fang and UzDaewoo. World-wide it operates through five segments viz., GM Europe, GM International operation, GM South America, GM North America and GM Financial. In the USA, the GM North America segment sells the vehicles. It has approximately 216,000 employees all over the world. In 2009, it had to shed several brands like Saturn, Pontiac and hummer due to bankruptcy issues. The company sold the most number of vehicles in the year 2014 as well. In April 2015, it has sold 269,056 vehicles which are 5.89% higher than vehicles sold in April 2014. It is #64 on the Forbes 2000 list and #394 on America’s best employers. As of May 2015, its market capitalization is $59 billion.
