Exxon mobil, an oil and gas multinational corporation, headquartered in Irvin, Texas was formed in 1999 as a result of merger between Mobil and Exxon (formerly known as Standard Oil of New Jersey and New York) and is associated to Imperial Oil, Canada.
Out of the world’s five or six largest publicly owned oil and gas companies (supermajors) Exxon Mobil is the largest. Exxon, Mobil and Esso are the brands of Exxon Mobil. Esso is the primary gasoline worldwide brand of Exxon Mobil except in Australia and New Zealand (where Mobil is exclusively used). Exxon is its primary brand in most of the United States except in New York, Florida, California, New England where mainly Mobil is used.
Currently headed by Rex W. Tillerson, the company employed 75,300 employees as in March 2015. Exxon Mobil operates in upstream, downstream and chemical divisions. Marketing, refining and retail operations are handled by downstream division whereas oil extraction, exploration, wholesale operations and shipping are handled by upstream division.
