Naspers is a South Africa based multinational mass media corporation. It has its headquarters in Cape Town.

The history of this company dates back to the year 1915 when it was founded by J.B.M Hetrzog as Nasionale Pers – newspapers and magazines publisher and printer. Its first Afrikaans daily was Die Burger in 1914 which was followed later by its first magazine, Die Huisgenoot in 1916. Book publishing was added to the company’s portfolio in 1918 and it became one of the most important media houses of Africa in those days. M-Net, the pay TV system was started by this company for the first time in the African region in 1985. The launch of the M-Net earned great reputation for the company and made it one of the largest media hubs in the world.

In 1998 the Nasionale Pers officially changed its name to ‘Naspers’. Apart from print media and book publishing Naspers Ltd currently provides television platform, technology products and internet services. It is known to operate in the three major segments- Pay Television, Internet and Print. The Pay television segment includes services like direct to home satellite services, digital terrestrial television services and other online services. Naspers owns a large number of brands of Internet media, TV media, Internet Providers and Print media. Some of the notable brands include OLX, Flipkart, Ibibo, PayU, SimilarWeb, MultiChoice, SuperSport, MWEB, Media 24, Grupo Abril and many more.

It is one of the largest companies in Africa with a market capitalization of over $ 67 billion dollars. Naspers also holds large portion of shares in many Chinese and Russian Media and technology firms. It is also happens to be the largest single shareholder in Tencent, a Chinese internet giant. Naspers is also holds a mjor chunk of shares of the Russian Website Mail.Ru.
