Incorporated in 2000, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) took over the business of providing telecom services and network management from the erstwhile central government Departments of Telecom Operations (DTO) and Telecom Services (DTS).
This state-owned telecom company is headquartered in New Delhi and is the country’s oldest communication services provider. The company has a pan India presence except in the metro cities of New Delhi and Mumbai.
In the metros, the company is managed by Mahanagar Telephone Ltd (MTNL).
BSNL provides almost every telecom service in the country including wire line, GSM and CDMA mobile, internet, broadband, carrier services, VoIP, VSAT etc. The company is making concentrated efforts to bridge the urban-rural digital divide prevailing in the country in the Information & Communication Technology (ICT) sector. It aims to provide affordable and innovative telecom services in the remotest parts of the country by leveraging technology. The company is aspiring to increase its post paid mobile customer base by 10% in the current financial year by improving its bill payment systems and making them more accessible.
