4. Virgin Atlantic airways Limited

Founded in 1984 by Richard Branson with its headquarters located at Crawley, UK.


It was one the largest airlines in terms of passengers volume in 2012 .Airlines carries over 5 million passengers each year to around 34 destinations. Its three major operating bases are London Gatwick, London Heathrow and Manchester airport. Its call sign is “Virgin.” The airline’s parent company is Virgin Group. Virgin Atlantic Little Red flights operates from London Heathrow to Edinburgh, and Aberdeen.

This second largest long haul airline operates its flights across UK, Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Caribbean. Airline links Asia with Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Delhi, Mumbai and Dubai. Also links UK with Lagos, Cape Town, and Johannesburg in Australia. Other routes include Canada, Mexico, US, Trinidad, Cuba, Tobago, Grenada etc.

Airline’s fleet size is 39 as of March 2014. The Fleet has the following aircrafts: Airbus A330-300, A340-300, A340-600 and Boeing 737 - 400. In the coming years it is expecting the scheduling of new fleet consists of Airbus A380-800 and Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner Jets.

In 2003 the airline has launched the Upper class suite, Club House for Passengers, having many unique features a Lounge would have. Airline has been receiving awards since 1986 for its best performance and unique features. It has won Best Travel/Leisure website 2013, Digital Impact 2013, BIMA Awards 2013, Best TV commercial, cool brand 2009, Best Cabin Crew, Best airport Lounge, Best Premium Economy class, leading transatlantic airline, No. 1 Frequent Flyer programme etc. Airlines also engages in sustainability in business for reducing CO2 emissions for each journey. Airline collaborated with Carbon room for sustainability fuels programme. Airlines do focus on reducing waste, recycling and reusing the discarded material. Facilities team is engaged in dealing with polystyrene food containers and plastic cups etc. All these initiatives are a part of its sustainability programme.
