Fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) are the goods that used by the consumers for their day to day activities. It includes food processing, personal care and health care. Emami Limited was founded by two childhood friends Mr. R S Agarwal and Mr. R S Goenka in the year 1974 in Kolkata.
It is headquartered in Emami Towers; Kolkata, West Bengal. It was started by the setup of an ayurvedic medicine and cosmetic manufacturing plant. The plant was dedicated to produce and target its products to the Indian middle-class. The products of the company sold well and soon it started getting repeated demands. Acquisition of Himani Ltd. in 1978 came out to be the turning point for Emami Ltd. as it started to produce health care products and toiletries in Himani’s factories. Boroplus Antiseptic and Navratna cool oil brands were launched under the umbrella of Himani Ltd. that became a hit in pan India. Other brands of Emami that created a buzz include Fair and handsome, Sona Chandi Chawanprash, Menthoplus and Fast Relief. Emami Ltd. also holds a majority stake in Zandu Pharmaceutical Works Ltd. and added a few brands which are Zandu Balm, Zandu Chyawanprash, Zandu Kesri Jeewan etc. under the tag of Zandu. Emami’s product portfolio now includes skin creams, hair care and ayurvedic healthcare products.
