McDonalds’ Corporation, headquartered in Oak Brook, Illinois, is the world’s biggest chain of fast food restaurants.
It was founded in 1955 by Ray Kroc, who had the unique vision of creating a system of restaurants that would provide the same consistent high quality food, across all locations. Operated through both franchisees and suppliers, Mc Donalds started growing and by 1958, they had already sold their 100 millionth ham burger. Today, they employ over 420,000 people and serve in over 36000 outlets across the world. Mc Donalds’ outlets offer drive-through and counter service with both indoor and outdoor seating. To keep up with the cafe culture, they introduced McCafe, which is a cafe-style format accompanying the normal restaurants. It is one of the most valuable brands of the year and has been a benchmark of quality fast food. Its offering includes a wide variety of burgers, sundaes, milkshakes, pies, french fries and several types of beverages like soft drinks, milkshakes, smoothies and iced teas. Ronald Mcdonald, a clown character, is the mascot of this fast-food chain. McDonalds symbolises happiness and it practises what it preaches; eg. the Happy meal for children where a free toy is offered, or the McHappy day where a percentage of sales across all outlets goes to charities.
