Bega Cheese is Cheese Company formed as a co-operative by Australian farmers in 1899 and located in Bega Valley of New South Wales which is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Australia.
Current owners of Bega Cheese are the 100 plus dairy farmers who supply the factories of Bega Cheese, milk which is in-turned processed and branded as different milk-products. Bega Cheese employs over 500 staff in the Bega Valley. It produces around 95,000 tonnes of Bega Cheese annually. Its majority demand is in Australia only however 20% of its total production gets exported to over 50 countries. Compared to other dairy co-operatives Bega Cheese limited is unique in the sense that its marketing function has always been different entity . It initially formed JV with Bancol and later developed in-house marketing but under a separate subsidiary. Its major competitor is Warranambool Cheese which is ranked 7 in the list. Bega Cheese has sophisticated processes of automation and mechanization. The whole process is automated decreasing the need of work-force which is costly in Australia. Right from automatic case-palletizers, un-manned laser-guided forklifts, to automatic de-boxers Bega cheese has invested heavily in machines. We also have one entire line that is fully automated from de-boxing the raw material at one end, to supply of the pallets to the truck at the other end. In 2014 it had annual revenue of 1.04 billion and market cap of $697 million.
