Named after the inventor of telephone Bell Canada Enterprise is the largest communication company in Canada, connecting over 13 million people with its services.
The history of this company is as old as invention of telephone. It is headquartered at Campus Bell in Montreal, Canada. With Alexander Graham Bell discovery of telephone, he leased the patented technology to develop equipment for American population. He co-founded Bell Telephone Company for the same purpose. To expand into other countries like Canada Bell Telephone Canada was formed as subsidiary in 1880 of Bell systems and was headed by Charles Fleetford Sise who was general manager at Bell System. It later grew slowly territory wise with technological innovation in the field and pioneered communication mediums in Canada. Considered to be one of the oldest companies of Canada BCE became an independent company in 1949 when the US parent divested its stake in the company. It also took a controlling stake in Northern Electric which provided equipments complementing Bell Canada's service solutions. Its major competitor Rogers Communication emerged with decreasing regulation in the sector and owns similar services as that by BCE.
Stake in the company is mostly owned by institutional investors and banks like Royal Bank of Canada.
