It is based in London, UK. On May 30, 1848, The Prudential Mutual Assurance and Investment and Loan Association was formed. It was named The Prudential Assurance Company in 1867. In order to set a global footfall, it opened its first overseas branch in India in 1923. By 1970, the company made a series of acquisitions including Vanbrugh Life and M&G Reinsurance. As it became impractical to manage such a diverse portfolio, Prudential Corporation plc was formed in 1978 to add flexibility. In 1999, it became Prudential plc and presently it operates in 3 significant areas - Asia, the UK and the US. It acquired Ghanaian life insurance company, Express Life, in December, 2013 and expanded its business in African market.
