GSK was formed as a result of a successful merger of Glaxo Wellcome plc and SmithKline Beecham plc in 2000. It focuses on researching and developing of innovative pharmaceuticals, vaccines and consumer healthcare products. It has commercial operations in more than 150 countries, large research and development centers in the UK, the USA, Belgium, China and Spain, and 84 manufacturing sites in 36 countries across the globe.
