3. E.ON

E.ON SE, formerly known E.ON AG, is headquartered in Dusseldorf, Germany.

It is marketed as E·ON. It derives its name from the Greek word “aeon” which translates as energy. Quite rightly, it is a provider of energy solutions operating in the following segments: Renewables, Generation, Global Commodities and Exploration and Production. It is one of the world’s largest investor-owned energy service providers. It delivers energy solutions to 33 million customers in over 30 nations. It came into existence in 2000 as a result of a merger between VEBA and VIAG. Its Conventional Generation segment consists of energy mix, coal, natural gas and oil, and nuclear energy. Renewables include water, wind, solar and bio energy. The Global Commodities segment transacts in electricity, natural gas, oil, coal, freight, and carbon allowances and participates in asset management across the gas value chain. Exploration and Production (E&P) operates in Norway, Russia, Algeria and United Kingdom.

Apart from energy, E.ON has been a major sports sponsor, namely of the FA Cup, Borussia Dortmund, Swedish ice hockey team Timrå IK among others. It has invested over 30 million euros in Museum Kunstpalast, a major art museum near Dusseldorf.
