This OS also has closed source model. JVM (Java Virtual Machine P) is the Kernel based for this OS. It was first introduced in year 1999 and was only blackberry based. Blackberry OS has been discontinued after the initiation of Blackberry 10 in 2013. Blackberry 10 is based on QNX kernel. It was announced by Thorsten Heins, CEO of BlackBerry 10.

Various versions for blackberry 10 are: Blackberry 10.1, 10.2, 10.2.1 and 10.2.2. Latest version is 10.3. Various features offered by blackberry 10 are gesture enabled, multi- tasking, Blackberry hub, which acts as a notification center, BlackBerry blend, Blackberry assistant etc. Hub has integrated various apps into one feature, include Email client, Blackberry messenger BBM, Linked client etc. Blackberry balance is specially designed for corporate users, can upload and save their personal and office work files in a secure place.

Android runtime is used by Blackberry10 to run applications on this android platform.

In 10.2.1 update .APK files can now be installed.

Recently in 2014 Blackberry has toed up with amazon.com resulting in the inception of its new update 10.3. Some of the blackberry models using Blackberry 10 OS are Z10, Q10, Z30, Q5, Z3, Classic, Leap, Passport and Blackberry porche design P 9982/3.
