4. Essar Group

This multinational conglomerate made a modest start as a construction company in 1969, founded by Ravi Ruia and Shashi Ruia.

The group derives its name from the founders’ initials, S and R together sound like Essar. The businesses that it operates in are steel, infrastructure, energy and services. Presently, Essar operates from over 29 nations and employs over 60,000 people worldwide. Essar Steel has an annual capacity of 14 MTPA and has its presence in Europe, Asia, North America and Africa. In energy, its primary businesses are oil and gas, and power. The group has a refinery in Vadinar, Gujarat with a capacity of 20 MTPA. Also, they are the biggest CBM player domestically, with CBM acreage of over 27000 sq. Km. In infrastructure they own Essar ports and Essar projects which is a leading Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor. In services, Essar offers a diversified portfolio of shipping, telecom,publishing, agribusiness, realty and business process outsourcing services.
