Electronic Arts, Inc. (EA), popularly known as EA Games, develops, publishes, markets and distributes video games.
The company, headquartered in Redwood City, California, United States was founded on May 28, 1982 by Trip Hawkins. Currently they are valued at a staggering $4.453 billion dollars. EA is mostly known for its sports themed video games like NFS, Command, Medal of Honor, etc.
Originally, EA only published games for home computer. In late 1980s, the company started developing its own games and by early 1990s started supporting consoles. Later, EA’s growth strategy involved several acquisitions of some successful developers. Through the acquisition of the popular online gaming site Pogo.com in 2001, EA got involved in direct distribution of digital games and services. Other acquisitions included social gaming startup Playfish, based in London PopCap Games in July 2011, the company behind hits like Bejeweled and Plats vs. Zombies. In June 2011, Origin was launched by EA. It was an online service through which downloadable games could be sold directly to consumers. A also owns and operates some major gaming studios around the world including EA Canada in Burnaby, EA Tiburon in Orlando, DICE in Sweden and BioWare in Edmonton
It is the producer of one of the bestselling and most popular games in the world, including FIFA, Road Rash, Madden Football, NHL 95, Wing Commander, and SimCity. It is also responsible for creating new titles such as Mass Effect for PlayStation and Xbox, which has been a major hit. It has also collaborated with Lucas Arts, who together have produced Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic.
