"Compagnia Tecnica Internazionale" is an international corporation- later named TECHINT for the telex code.
It was founded in 1945. The founder was Agostino Rocca, an innovative engineer, entrepreneur and manager; he was behind the growth of the Italian steel industry in the 1930s. The company started providing engineering services to companies in Europe and Latin America. In 1949 construction activities started, among them were the southern gas pipeline in Argentina. Production of heavy mechanical equipment and steel structures and parts was also started in Argentina. Techint is a group of more than 100 companies having worldwide operations in the following areas of business: construction, oil & gas, steel, mining industrial plants, engineering, healthcare. Techint, and its subsidiaries, is the largest steel manufacturer in Latin America. Techint is the world's largest seamless steel tubes manufacturing company, which are mainly used in the oil industry. A staple of large scale engineering projects all over South America, Techint was involved in the privatization drive of the early 1990s, buying a stake in Argentina's then-leading steel manufacturer, an important part of Techint's core manufacturing strength has since been deep-dived in the San Nicolás-Villa Constitución oil-and-steel corridor, where it has become the regional leader in the production of cold rolled steel.
