Oil & Natural Gas Corporation, headquartered in Dehradun, is a multinational oil and gas company.

It is Government of India’s Public sector undertaking. It is under the ambit of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. It is the largest oil and gas production and exploration company in India producing 62% of the country’s natural gas and 69% of crude oil. As per a government survey, it was the largest profit making public sector Company in India in 2011-12. It was founded in 1956 and about 69% stake is held by the government of India. Mr. D K Saffar is the chairman and MD of the company. It operates in 26 sedimentary basins in India and has over 11,000 km of pipelines in the country. It has an international subsidiary called ONGC Videsh and this subsidiary has operations in 15 countries viz. Columbia, Cuba, Brazil, Russia, Myanmar etc. ONGC Tripura Power company is a joint venture formed in 2008 between ONGC, Government of Tripura and Infrastructure Leasing and Financial services ltd. It is listed on the BSE and the NSE. LIC is the biggest non-promoter share holder of the company. In 2013, ONGC was ranked in the Randstad Awards as the Most Attractive Employer in the Energy sector in the country.
