Avianca S.A. is the national airline and flagship airline of Colombia.
It was founded on 1919. Initially it was registered as SCADTA. Its headquarters is in Bogota and its main hub is at El Dorado International Airport. It is the largest airline in Colombia and second largest in Latin America. It is the world’s second oldest airline still in operation. The company had its first flight between Barranquilla and Puerto Colombia. In 1920 it started its international operation in Venezuela and in the United States. In 1940 it was merged SCADTA was merged with Colombian air carrier SACO forming Avianca. Its focus cities are Medellin, Cali, Cartagena, Barranquilla, San José and Quito as well as Miami. The airline offers its service in 22 countries. Earlier its frequent flyer program was “AviancaPlus”, however in 2011 it was changed to “LifeMiles”.
