India, a South East Asian land known for its culture and traditions is build on 3,287,590 km² land with a population of 1.26 billion.
It has a GDP per capita 1,498.87 USD (2013). India has a greater part of area, around 60.3% land as agricultural land, according to world bank, with 50% population engaged in agricultural activities while over 70 per cent of the rural households depend on agricul-ture as their principal means of livelihood. Agriculture sector in India contributes 16% - 18% to GDP while about 65% comes from services and 18% from manufacturing sector. India has also wit-nessed 3.7% growth in agricultural sector in 2013-14, according to world bank. The country has a dedicated Indian Agricultural Research Institute founded in 1905, which also contributed in bring-ing the Green Revolution in the 1970s.
India is rich in production of crops like rice, cotton, wheat, soybean, sugar, Fruits and Vegetables like Onion, Tomatoes, Potatoes, Dairy and Meat products. Some of the farming methods employed by India include subsistence farming, plantation agriculture and shifting agriculture.
