5. Manchester City

Manchester City is a professional English football based in Manchester, England.

Its home stadium is the City of Manchester Stadium also known as Eastlands stadium. The club has seen many successes in the recent past that made its popularity to grow by leaps across the world.

It was founded in 1880 as St. Mark’s. It then became Ardwick Association Football Club in 1887 which later transformed as Manchester City in 1894. Before moving onto the City of Manchester Stadium in 2003, it played all of its home games at Maine Road from 1923.

Though it won its first trophy in 1904, its major success story began in the late 1960s and early 1970s under the management of Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison. They won the FA Cup, European Cup Winners’ Cup and the League Championship during that period. The club went through a lean phase after their loss in 1981 FA Cup Final culminating in relegation to the 3rd tier of English Football. But the club regained its glory and returned back to it Premier League status when it was purchased in 2008 by Abu Dhabi United Group. It has won the FA Cup in 2011 and also qualified for the UEA Champions League. They won the League title after 44 years in 2012. Last year, they continued their successful run by winning League Cup and a second Premier League title.

The current squad of Manchester City has players like David Silva, Fernando, Joe Hart, Jesus Navas and others. It always had a good fan base which ballooned because of their successes in the recent past.
