Manchester United is a professional football club based in Old Trafford, England.

The club has the highest social media fan following and the highest market value among the clubs playing in the English Premier League. It was founded in 1878, during which it was known as Newton Heath LYR Football Club. In 1902, it was renamed as Manchester United with the home ground moving to Old Trafford in 1910.

It was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1991. It was purchased by Malcolm Glazer in May 2005 for almost £800 million. It made its initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange in 2012. It was remarked as a global brand by Brand Finance valuing its trademarks and associated intellectual property at £412 million in 2011.
